Ferns are among planet Earth’s most ancient and redoubtable plants: their origins lie over 350 million years ago, and they have survived major extinction events including the one which killed the dinosaurs. Written by scientists and illustrated by an award-winning botanical artist, this book explores how ferns migrated from sea to land, how they established their place within different ecosystems, how they survived when so many other living things perished, and what their ability to adapt can tell us about our rapidly warming planet.
